Fitness Fundamentals / Exergaming

Pediatric Potentials’ Fitness Fundamentals program enables students to develop and maintain cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition. Our PTs work with children from elementary school through high school age  to address the “couch potato” culture. We keep kids motivated by incorporating Wii and Wii Fit and fun interactive video games and tools like Dance Dance Revolution, GameBike, Yoga and Balance Boards (a technique known as "exergaming"). Studies have found that the level of intensity when kids do exergaming is consistent with current physical activity reommendations for children. Exergaming can be used as a strategy to decrease sedentary time, increase adherence to exercise programs, and promote the enjoyment of physical activity.

We also prepare students in the skills necessary to achieve recognition in the President’s Challenge.  Schools today often fail to prepare youngsters in the skills - including curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance run/walk, pull-ups or push-ups, and V-sit - needed to achieve Presidential recognition for fitness. Pediatric Potentials’ Fitness Fundamentals program enables students to develop the body ability and skills to have their achievements recognized by the President’s Challenge, can help make schools aware of required statutory accommodations that may be needed for students with special needs, and motivates children for lifelong healthy physical activity.
